I had the previous standalone zip file of the HIEF dll files installed in the plugin directory prior to the latest upgrade. It is a little slower than the previous XNViewMP version. Perhaps it is a flawed dll in the latest version, or however win10 interacts with it and the auto-updated Microsoft HEIF plugins from the other day. Simply deleted the heif.dll file from plugins. I am really loving the MP setting and I got my friends into it recently, which is awesome! I have 90 hours played on it right now, and I plan on playing more. if you want to get back into the multiplayer setting of NWN, you will need to get the Enhanced Edition since Gamespy, the company who was powering the multiplayer servers, shutdown. If you want to play NWN, I recommend playing the original version over this one. Get your 360 out, your PS3, and play some genuinely good games. ![]() Beamdog's "enhancements" have only made the games worse! It doesn't hep that Beamdog is injecting SJW themes into these games we love (Siege of Dragonspeare, the Baldur's Gate expansion I never thought I would get, is riddled with SJW messages!) I WANT Beamdog to succeed! I WANT to like them, but how can I when they make these sub-par remastered games! In my opinion, if you are as fed up with the gaming market as I have been, I would highly recommend going back to your old games and playing the hell out of them. As most of you probably know, Beadog has performed HORRIBLY! It sucks because I really want to like them and support the enhanced versions of the games they are making I love Baldur's Gate, I love Neverwinter Nights, and I am hoping they might do something similar with the KotOR games, but they seem to have been half-assing these "enhanced editions" simply to milk the money off of gamers who are fed up with this insufferable modern day, "Triple A" gaming market that continuously makes sub-par games riddled with bugs, glitches, and worst of all, microtransactions and lootboxes. I had REALLY HIGH hopes for the studio developing the game, Beamdog, who is founded and headed by BioWare's former co-founder Trent Oster. This is a REMASTERED game, so why is it worse?!?! Running out of space, so I'm gonna leave it at that. The game has problems, glitches, more bugs than the original game and that is a problem. It's an issue I wanted to put out their if anyone was considering getting the game for mods such as Aeilund. This isn't a slight on the game, however, as it is a problem with the mod itself. I would have uninstalled it if not for the fact that I need it to play on specific community created modules, such as the Aeilund Saga. They don't render without updated Nvidia drivers, which sucks. I am using a mac to play the game and have the CEP mod installed, which is great, except for the fact that robes and cloaks/capes make me invisible. I personally haven't noticed many issues with it. The game has all the content you remember and the multiplayer is back, which is awesome! I am so glad because I loved the NWN multiplayer back in the day, despite its flaws (and their are quite a few). The game has little to no changes that are actually good, aside from the fact that they added skyboxes and roofing, which would be a cool edition if it didn't mess with certain cinematic scenes in the process (Drogan's battle at the beginning of SotU, the rafters gets in the way of the scene). It runs a lot slower than the original edition that I have, but I do believe this is because the enhanced edition is built off of the NWN Diamond Edition of Neverwinter Nights, which I remember having serious frame rate issues back in the day. In order for your game to look appealing at all, you have to disable Vibrance and Ambient occlusion, and then it essentially looks like the old game. First off, the enhanced edition has some serious problems. Because I have replayed the original unenhanced version of NWN, it was fresh in my mind and I will be comparing it to the enhanced edition. I finished right around the time this game came out and, out of love for the franchise, bought it on steam. I also ended up replaying the original NWN games (with the two main expansions) on my mac. Baldur's Gate I, II, Dark Alliance I/II, KotOR I and II, The Oddworld games, the Jedi Knight games, you name it. Because the games that have come out this year have largely sucked, with a few exceptions such as God of War and Halo Online (Thanks to Because the games that have come out this year have largely sucked, with a few exceptions such as God of War and Halo Online (Thanks to Microsoft and 343, nobody can download it, sadly), I actually went back to all my old games and started replaying them. ![]() The company has also expanded into new markets, such as the data center and gaming markets, and has announced plans to enter the high-performance computing market. To develop that kit, MI9, the British secret-service unit responsible for escape and evasion, conspired with John Waddington, Ltd., the U.K. “The game was too innocent to raise suspicion,” ABC News’s Ki Mae Heussner put it- but “it was the ideal size for a top-secret escape kit.” The maps? Concealed within the board itself. ![]() The money, in the form of French, German, and Italian bank notes? Hidden below the Monopoly money. The compasses and files? Both disguised as playing pieces. And one of the categories of items that could be included in those packages was “games and pastimes.” So the Allies took military advantage of this human kindness: Posing as “charities” (one of the better fake names: the Licensed Victuallers Prisoners Relief Fund), they sent packages to their POWs that featured clandestine escape kits, which included tools like compasses, metal files, money, and, most importantly, maps.Īnd: They disguised those kits as Monopoly games. ![]() Germany, however- in part as a nod to the Geneva Convention-allowed humanitarian groups like the Red Cross to distribute care packages to those prisoners. In Monopoly’s case, those consequences came during World War II.ĭuring the war, large numbers of British airmen were felled over enemy airspace and then held as prisoners behind enemy lines. While this seems a minor change as far as the game itself is concerned-Thimble? Guitar? What’s the difference?-it’s worth remembering that even the smallest changes in the even the smallest amusements can, over the capricious course of history, have significant consequences. (If we ever end up playing a future version of Monopoly together, by the way: Dibs on the robot.) And it will be replaced, per Hasbro, by one of these candidates: a cat, a diamond ring, a guitar, a helicopter, or a mustachioed robot. One of the cast-metal widgets that track players’ moves across the board-the Scottie dog, the race horse, the hat, the wheelbarrow, the shoe, the battleship, the thimble-will soon be replaced. Today brings news, however, that the board game will be making some changes to some of its most recognizable anachronisms: the iconic playing pieces. To play Monopoly-even if you’re playing one of those newfangled versions-is in some sense to step back in time: specifically, to the America of 1934, when the game was first mass-marketed. One of the charms of Monopoly is its insistent iconography: the quaint little board, with its quaint little properties and its quaint little playing pieces, all overseen by the quaint little mascot that is Rich Uncle Pennybags. ![]() A film like “Uncharted” needs to transport audiences. Design never once feels like a consideration, whether Nathan and Chloe are crawling through a nondescript tunnel to hidden treasure or Sully is getting into one of the few fight scenes in an actual Papa John’s. It’s green screen performing that ignores how much setting can matter in a film like this one. “Uncharted” bounces these characters off each other on a journey to Spain and the Philippines, but nothing has any weight to it. Moncada’s will is enforced by the tough Jo Braddock ( Tati Gabrielle) and the boys reunite with an old colleague of Sully’s in Barcelona named Chloe Frazier ( Sophia Ali, who pretty much steals the movie). They quickly cross paths with Santiago Moncada (an Antonio Banderas so underutilized that one has to believe half his part was cut), the heir to the family that funded the original expedition. They stole the diary of the famous explorer Juan Sebastian Elcano, which will guide them to treasure that was hidden by the Magellan expedition. While working at a bar and stealing jewelry from his patrons, Drake is approached by Victor Sullivan aka Sully ( Mark Wahlberg), who tells him that he got close to one of the most famous lost treasures in history with Nathan’s brother Sam. Holland is a smart actor, but he’s just wrong here, always looking a little bit like a kid dressing up as his favorite video game character. If Indiana was typically the smartest person in a room, Drake needs to be the one with the sharpest instincts, someone who sees the puzzles of history from a place of expertise and courage. Holland has the agility but quite simply lacks the weight and world-weariness needed for a character like Drake, who was raised in an orphanage and is willing to steal to make ends meet. He should be a smooth-talking treasure hunter, someone who exists in a slightly gray moral area wherein stealing priceless artifacts is warranted because no one else can really appreciate them like Drake. Nathan Drake ( Tom Holland) was conceived as a throwback to Indiana Jones and the serial adventure films that inspired him. The ones on which this movie is based are certainly more artistic. Roger famously said that video games can never be art. However, “Uncharted” seems to want to ride the goodwill of the video game adventures of Nathan Drake more than create any of its own it takes no risks and feels like a bare minimum effort in terms of storytelling. It’s not quite as disastrous as some video game adaptations, and it’s at least light enough on its feet to never insult the intelligence of its fan base as so many of these movies tend to do. ![]() What’s most startling is how much the games themselves feel more cinematic in terms of world building, character, and narrative than the actual movie. Dominated by green screen special effects and thin treasure-hunt plotting, “Uncharted” fundamentally lacks the sense of adventure that turned the Sony games into some of the most beloved of all time. How is a movie based on a video game more soulless than the game itself? The knock against the world of gaming has long been that they lack a human element, but Ruben Fleischer’s “Uncharted” feels emptier than the award-winning franchise on which it’s based. |
